Potash Garden Centre & Tearoom

Our Company & Objectives

A little bit about Potash Garden Centre

We have our own Nursery and grow 90% of the plants sold at the garden centre ourselves. This includes an extensive range of shrubs, hardy perennials, patio and basket plants. Our specialism is hanging baskets and planted pots and tubs. From April onwards, a vast range of hanging baskets and planters are available in a range of sizes and prices, to make the perfect gift or decoration.

We have been exhibiting in local, regional and national garden shows for the last 15 years, including RHS Hampton Court, BBC Gardeners Live and Malvern. We are proud to have received a number of awards for our exhibits and keep striving for a prestigious Gold. Some of our most popular displays are illustrated below.

Glebelands Nursery

At our Nursery, Glebelands, we grow 90% of our plants before selling them on at the Garden Centre. This includes an extensive range of shrubs, hardy perennials, patio and basket plants. While also providing a large range of hanging baskets and planted pots and tubs.

Our Nursery is where we grow the majority of our plants, which are closely monitored and grown here to a high, professional standard. We are exceptionally proud of the Nursery as it has played an important part in the growth of our Garden Centre and was the initial foundation of the business.

History

We are a Family run business that has been in operation since 1930, passing knowledge and experiences down through five generations. Over the years the business has had to adapt to changing markets and life obstacles. It has however, weathered these well and remains an independent and community based business that focuses on selling high quality products.

The original Nursery bought in 1930 by Joseph Copeman, was in South Woodham Ferrers and was used to grow salad crops, particularly tomatoes. This was continued with slight variation until Roger Copeman (Josephs great-grandson) branched out into bedding plants. He supplied Woolworth shops all over the country, and regularly attended SpittleFields Markets. This was extremely successful and would have continued in this way if not for the compulsory purchase in 1978. Whereby the Nursery was seized and traded for Glebelands, the Copeman family then moved to Hawkwell.

Simon Copeman joined the Company after University in 1990 and the business changed again to include perennial and shrub plants as ornamentals started to gain more popularity. We started participating in garden shows and opened to the public. Then in 2012 Potash Garden Centre was acquired and became our new sales front, later the Tearoom was built and is now run by Debbie Copeman. Currently the business is still growing and adapting to modern markets and issues. We hope to keep evolving and inspire the next generation to continue on this journey!

Well stocked, excellent quality goods. Friendly and knowledgable staff. A great local garden centre to visit!

Mike

Great place for my Dog Food purchase they are always well stocked and have many brands. Potash pricing is fair too. It is nice to call in and get what I want rather than hear "no we are out of stock". Easy parking and now they have a tea room.
